The first big award for the year is done and dusted, usually an indication of what lies ahead. With some massive walk aways by The Social Network, one can only wonder what the Oscars will hold.
Having just recently watched a tv travel show that explored the 7 wonders of the world, I decided this would be an entry worth putting on my bucket list. Not just one entry but 7 in one. Then after more investigation I stumbled upon the wikipedia article on the 7 wonders. Yes there is 7 wonders, but there is 7 wonders of the ancient world, medieval, natural, modern world etc. Now what? Problem is when I reach 65 most of these wont exists any more?? So that does make it easier, one place comes to mind is the polar caps.. with our current amount of rain and flooding the southern hemisphere is experiencing and snow storms in the northern hemisphere, I sit and wonder is this not all coming from the poles? I decided as well not to research any prices and tick off the list of wonder one by one as I manage to see them. Only one ticked off sofar and thats Hagia Sophia… and Victoria Falls is not that far from South Africa.
Bucket List Entry no 4.
After having a close to near death experience with the Massive amount for a 34 day trip, I decided lets look for other luxury destinations in South Africa. Found it, I want to stay in a luxury Castle. With Knysna being one of the most beautiful woods in the world I found Pezula Castle. Browsing thru the site, seeing the feather soft beaches with movie like surroundings, I decided lets look if there is any availability for one night to stay there. To my surprise I could not find any. So it must be good. Now where could I find the price. After a short search I found it, 1 Night - emphasis on 1, R99k. And my heart stopped. R350k to travel from Cape to Cairo for 34 days, suddenly sounded cheap compared. So the only place I could place this is on the bucket list. It would be maybe cheaper to fly to England, go find a castle hotel, stay over and fly back. check it out www.pezula.co.za
Watch all of the Top 250 movies on the IMDB highest rated movies. Which is not that ambitous but could be a time consuming task on its own. And to take into account this list change every year, with 2010 adding 5 movies as new entries. Inception, Toy Story 3 to name just a few. And some of the movies would be so difficult to find, either on DVD or Blu-ray. I maybe have watched around 80 of the 250 already. And yes I have watched even a Black and White Marilyn Monroe movie “Some Like it Hot”. So now to dust of other golden oldies and watch those movies in new eyes.
Check out the Top 250 at IMDB.

Bucket List Entry No 2
Ok, now I realised I need to make like 101 entries for a bucket list, no pressure. Well with xmas that just been passed there would be nothing more amazing to go see the northern lights in Alaska / Norway. This is definately one of the planets amazing wonder of the world. Created by the magnetic field around the earth and light bending or reflection creating the most beautiful and colourful presentation money cant buy. Maybe even find the north pole and Santa… yes I know he does not exists and for all those reading this only now sorry to spoil it. Just for this trip will need to get a shopping list of clothes to buy not to freeze to death.
So I decided to make a bucket list, the first thing is taking into account that this I need to do before or after I have retired. The first option was taking a trip from Cape to Cairo on a train. On the most luxurious train in the world - ROVOS rail. Going thru the itinerary I was amazed with all the stops the hotels, food and luxury. If you ever need to unwind this is it. Then I realised this trip Cape to Cairo will take 34 Days, then the price hit me like a train… pardon the pun. R350k per person sharing. Thats R10k per night. Excluding flights back from Cairo. Thats a price of a BMW 3 series, or make it two of them if you take a partner with. hmmm options, Lotto, rob a bank? definitely something to put on the list. Maybe if I put it out there to the universe I will win that either elusive Lotto. And starting to live “the lifestyle of the rich and famous” said with that corny 80’s presenter accent. This was good find, hellish expensive, 34 days into Africa. Definitely an adventure of a lifetime. So if you ever want to drool over the pictures and imagine this african exploration, go to www.rovos.com.
